driving lessons

The cost of driving lessons is significant and unless you have natural driving talent or were born knowing everything, then you'll need to enlist the help of somebody to help you pass your driving test.

This can be a parent or a friend but most people end up taking driving lessons with a driving school.

Driving lesson prices are typically around £25 an hour and you'll be lucky to need less than 30 of them. Many instructors will do you a deal for buying ( and paying) in bulk — 10 lessons for the price of 8, for example.

Getting more experience with a parent or friend is very valuable but it's illegal to pay anybody other than a qualified driving instructor for lessons.....but you can pay for their petrol. Remember that anybody who does supervise you is legally the responsible driver, so they need to act responsibly and not be on their mobile or asleep. The Police are likely to take a dim view of this and could prosecute them.

The cost of 30 to 40 driving lessons with a qualified instructor works out at £750 to £1000. To help keep the cost of driving lessons down, many instructors offer discounts if you pre-book a number of lessons.
